Brief

Winnie came to Adam with a specific occasion in mind: a Japanese designer fashion show in Japan. She wanted a piece that felt considered, expressive and appropriate for a fashion event, while still allowing her to feel comfortable and confident in her own body.

The brief called for a garment that would flatter her plus-size figure without feeling restrictive. It needed to allow ease of movement, sitting, dining and dancing — without requiring her to constantly adjust herself or feel conscious of the body.

Solution

Adam developed a fluid kaftan dress with an asymmetric cut, using drape and proportion to create a more elongated visual line. Rather than placing the body in a tight or overly shaped silhouette, the design worked with movement, allowing the fabric to fall with softness while creating a graceful sense of length.

A Vietnamese silk with a dual-tone quality was selected for its fluid texture and subtle play with light. The fabric was chosen to complement Winnie’s complexion while giving the dress a luminous effect as she moved. Under light, the silk revealed shifting tones, creating a quiet sense of drama suitable for a fashion event.

The final piece gave Winnie presence without discomfort — a made-to-measure kaftan dress shaped through softness, proportion and movement, allowing her to feel composed, expressive and at ease.
