One Dress, Many Chapters
On conversation, fabric, movement, and the making of The Eli Signature Dress.
The design process does not always begin at the sketch table.
Sometimes, it begins in conversation. The Eli Signature Dress was born from one such exchange — a conversation between Adam Liew and a client, over coffee. She was also a friend, and perhaps for that reason, she spoke with unusual honesty.
She told him that his work had always been elegant, composed, and precise. But at times, she felt it held too much restraint. She wanted something softer. Something more fluid. A design with a sense of sensuality — not obvious, not excessive, but present.
A dress that allowed a woman to feel elegant, powerful, and quietly desirable at the same time.
It was a clear challenge. For Adam, elegance had never depended on exposure. His instinct had always been towards refinement, proportion, and composure. Yet her point was not about showing more for the sake of attention. It was about how a woman wishes to feel in her own body.
She was asking for balance. A dress that could hold confidence without becoming severe.
Sensuality without becoming loud. Power without losing softness. Elegance without denying desire. That conversation became the beginning of The Eli Signature Dress.
Adam began to think in reverse — not from what he preferred to design, but from what the woman wanted to feel.
The result was a silhouette that reveals and protects at once. The front remains composed, with a neckline designed to suggest ease rather than excess. The back opens with intention, offering a sense of sensuality while still considering the parts of the body many women may feel conscious of.
The dress does not ask the woman to perform.
It allows her to feel. This balance continues through the fabric.
The Eli Signature Dress is made in a self-printed fabric designed and developed by Adam Liew, Founder of Eli. The print is produced exclusively for Eli on premium georgette chiffon, chosen for its lightness, movement, and fluid drape.
The fabric was designed to carry the idea of water — not literally, but through rhythm, softness, and movement. It gives the dress depth without overwhelming the body, allowing it to move between day, evening, travel, and occasion with quiet ease.
The dress is cut on the bias to fall naturally with the body. This construction allows the garment to soften in movement, creating ease without losing shape. It follows the body rather than forcing the body into a fixed line.
Inside, the lining is chosen with tropical weather in mind. Made with premium Tencel cotton, it is breathable, soft against the skin, and comfortable for warm climates.
Every part of the dress returns to the same question: How can a woman feel elegant, sensual, comfortable, and composed — all at once?
The answer is not found in one detail alone. It is found in proportion, fabric, movement, construction, and restraint.
The Eli Signature Dress is not designed for one version of a woman. It is designed for the many chapters she moves through: the corporate woman, the traveller, the host, the woman at rest, the woman in ceremony, the woman seeing herself in the mirror and recognising both strength and softness.
This is the design process behind Eli.
To listen first.
To understand the woman before the garment.
To create beauty that does not overpower her, but returns her to herself.
